Buchanan was honored by the city of Atlanta on March 17, 2000, which was proclaimed "Beverly Buchanan Day" by mayor, Bill Campbell. He stated, "whereas, through her work, Beverly Buchanan compels us to ponder the place of shacks in our social and economic culture; and whereas, we commend Beverly Buchanan for using her artistry to bring what is often overlooked into the limelight."
